Tag for single-layer corsets?
I'm in the planning phases for a foundation layer to go under a fitted, stretch satin dress, and I'm leaning towards making the foundation a single-layer coutil corset/corselette.  I know several of you here have made single-layer corsets in the past, so I was hoping to read up on techniques and tips here.  Do we not have a tag for single-layer corsets, or am I being blind and, as my mother would say, "it's about to jump right out and bite me"?  Or are single-layer construction techniques covered under another term/tag?  If we don't have a tag for single-layer corsets at all, is that something anyone else would be interested in?  Or should I just use Google search to find all the mentions on the comm?  ;)

I mostly see little snippits of talk of single layer corsets in the posts about internal and external boning channels (as opposed to sandwiched boning channels, not applicable to single layer corsets), so perhaps checking the boning channnels tag will help you with your search!

There are also a couple of posts on construction of single-layer corsets in the construction techniques tag but you have to search for it (perhaps Google-fu is called for here). It's mostly talk of flat-felled seams and also I remember Cathy Hay showing how she did lapped seams that was traditionally used on single-layer corsets.

Hmm, good thought on the boning channels topic, I'll definitely look through there. My Google-fu didn't turn up much, unfortunately, but I'll keep poking around. Thanks!

You're not blind, we don't have that tag. Good idea, though, I'll add it. It won't propagate backwards very fast (or possibly at all) but it'll be there going forward.

I would check out the construction|seams, construction|bone casings, construction|assembly.

The only single-layer corset I can find offhand is mine. This was the final post, all other relevant ones are linked from the top. I've actually been experimenting with using a lapped seam foot, which I think gives more accurate results over the seam method linked in that post, but YMMV.

I just looked that foot up, it sounds like an interesting solution to single layer corset seams. How does it handle curves?

Thanks for adding the tag! :D Hopefully it'll be useful to other people, too. As I'm going back through old posts, is there a way I can add the tag to posts by other people? Or would you like me to let you know about any old posts I find talking about single layer corsets?

I'll check out the lapped seam foot stuff too. Thanks again for adding the tag!

Yes! It's very easy. There's a button at the top next to "edit entry" which has a tag ("edit tag") on it, if you click that you can add any tag to any entry. Note you can't take tags off, so if you accidentally put something on that shouldn't be there just PM me the link and I'll take care of it.
