Goldenrod silk underbust with black lace applique and external bone casings
Hi Everyone,

We've been busy drafting and testing a few new patterns for the past 6 months or so.  We constructed this last corset to showcase a new underbust pattern that is now available in our etsy shop.  Our main goal with this pattern was to create a beautiful silhouette and a garment suitable for tightlacing.  There are very few commercial patterns available that offer a decent reduction, let alone proper sizing! Now there is a pattern that has both!

For this garment we constructed a sample size 22" without any modifications or alterations.  Right "out of the box" it fits a variety of ladies and is easily altered when necessary.

We wanted to make something special and a little luxe, so when we found some goldenrod silk in our studio we knew we had something promising!  The inner core is black British coutil and the exterior shell is golden silk shantung.  This corset was constructed using the sandwich method and in order to give body to the lightweight silk we also used a medium weight interfacing.  Once the shell was constructed we laid out the black lace and decided on an appropriate placement.  This was done by cutting and trimming the motif from the width of the goods, then pinning the desired shape to the garment.  Once the lace was delicately applied by machine, the next order of business was bone channels.

This particular corset contains 16 steel bones, a mix of spiral and spring.  The bone channels were constructed by fusing a single layer of coutil to a single layer of silk.  Once this was set and cooled, the bias strips were sewn into tubes and pressed flat with the aid of metal bias pressing bars.  These casings were then laid out and stitched to the corset with the help of a zipper foot.  Bones were then easily inserted, firmly nested between fabric and body.

The corset also features a modesty panel with the same lace applique.  This was constructed and then attached while the corset was being laced.

We contacted one of our photographers and he graciously supplied the following images.  He was also kind enough to bring along one of his models who happened to be a size 22". We are quite pleased with the results!  Finally a multi-sized pattern that offers a curvy shape! Hurrah!
