Since I have so many darn people wanting to commission me for work
Hey, I have quite a few coworkers who have been impressed with my recent work that I decided to go ahead and start taking commissions for work on corsets for others. For someone who is a beginning corsetmaker, I decided to do initial cost of the materials + 40-50% tacked on for labor. I figured that it would not be fair to charge an hourly rate for labor as it does take me a while to sew a corset. If I charged an hourly rate, it would come out to be outrageously expensive. What I got for my pricing would be $90 for an overbust and $70 for an underbust (I can alter the Simplicity 9769 or get the Laughing Moon underbust pattern). Would this be asking too much or too little or does it seem about right. I am not ready to start ordering wholesale quite yet as I have not received enough commission work to support it. I just typed up a document outlining what I can offer, cost for the corset plus any add ons, and my policies on deposits and such. Would it be helpful if I posted that document on here? Any insight into this would be wonderful.
PS: I did forget to mention that I have two patterns that I am working off of that I can alter to fit.
